Epson C31CH51011A0 TM-T20III Printer: Everything You Need to Know

This small black printer comes with an internal power supply and UK mains cable and also has USB and RS-232serial connectivity. Being the most popular brand of POS printer in Europe, Epson supports the TM-T20III with a 24 months warranty and a long-term history of working and reliable point-of-sale devices.

The TM-T20III is a small shop, specialty store, cafe, and restaurant printer with a combination of high print speeds and low cost of operation. Its thermal line-head prints off sharp 203 dpi receipts (8 dots/mm), and an in-built cutter and paper-saving mode help to reduce running costs.

The TM-T20III is compatible with standard ESC/POS commands and supports Epson ePOS (web printing); it can also be incorporated into a POS system that uses tablets or other devices to check in and out once installed. Its silent mode (around 55 dB) and automatic printing paper-cutting feature (that overlays receipts) enhance efficiency and environmental friendliness even more.

Reliability & Performance

  • MTBF and Durability: MTBF = 360,000 hours, meaning long-term reliability. The thermal printhead has an estimated paper life of approximately 150km (150 million pulses) and the auto-cutter of approximately 1.5 million cuts, so it is high volume.
  • Auto-Cutter Life: The Partial-cut auto-cutter reduces wear and jams. Typical life is ~1.5 million cuts.
  • Operating Conditions: Ideal usage in harsh conditions—5 to 45°C and 10 to 90 RH (non-condensing). Storage range is –10–50°C and 10–90% RH.
  • Energy-Saving: Standby current is 0.1 A only and minimizes power consumption during idle periods.
  • Environment: CE, FCC Class A, VCCI Class A, UL/cUL, and TUV safety/EMC environmental compliance.

Compatibility Information

  • Command Languages: Fully ESC/POS compatible (the industry standard command set) and supports epos Web API.
  • Drivers Epson offers the TMUSB printer driver (serial/USB): software utilities in Windows. There is an Epson CUPS driver on Linux and a Mac driver on macOS.
  • Platforms: Windows (and the latest 11, 10, 8.1, etc.), MacOS (10.5 and later), and some major Linux distributions (via CUPS). Epson provides Epson epos SDK iOS/Android to support mobile printing on the Ethernet model.
  • Scalability: USB/Serial model is replaceable with Ethernet models (assuming the need to network later), so the TM-T20III is a safe long-term investment.

Use Cases

  • Retail Point-of-Sale: Perfect at shop checkouts, supermarkets, and convenience stores to print sharp receipts of sales and returns.
  • Hospitality & Entertainment: Appropriate in restaurants, cafes, pubs, and other locations where quick billing and the ability to print tickets quickly and reliably are required to speed up the process.
  • Healthcare and Pharmacy: Fill out prescription and over-the-counter receipts faster and more precisely, which are useful when space is limited in a pharmacy or clinic.
  • General POS printing: This can be used in any POS setting, such as lotteries, parking tickets, or coupon and voucher printing, where a high-speed and durable receipt printer is needed.
